Microsofts Office 2000:
Microsoft previewed its Office 2000 beta
version to more than 500 customers in June. Herb Bethoney, of PCWeek was so impressed with
the new Office suite he wrote, "Even at this early stage, PCWeek Labs found Office 2000
offers enough productivity gains that companies already using Office should seriously
consider migrating".
One major reason for upgrading is that the new version
is Y2K compliant, where as Office 97 is lacking. This is an important bonus to meeting
compliant issues.
Another added benefit is that it is designed to help
people in business turn information into an asset. Microsoft accomplished this by
collaborating with the Internet. Microsoft realizes the Internet is a very important part
of the business environment, and has focused a great deal of resources to incorporate the
Web into Office 2000.
Web based analysis tools will enable better decision
making for businesses. One aspect of this feature is the ability to create and design web
pages more easily. Therefore, businesses can make changes to their Web pages as desired
without any hassles.
IS managers will enjoy the benefits of Office 2000. Benefits of global architecture will allow managers to realize more
savings in the cost of deploying, supporting, and administering Office software.
Some of the new features of Office 2000
are:
 |
The ability to Post documents from all Office
applications, directly to the Web, and receive feedback via the Web. |
 |
Creating Web pages using any Office application. |
 |
Installing on demand technology install only the
features they need, and run other Office components from the server. |
